He was born March 19, 1918 in Lambert, a son of the late Steve and Mary Franko Hatalla. He was a member of The Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Nemacolin. He worked as a mine foreman at US Steel Robena Mine until his retirement in 1977.
On June 15, 1940 he married Marie Lipchinsky who survives, also a son, Joseph M. Hatalla of Orrville, Ohio, two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Josephine) Takacs, and Mrs. Richard (Marian) Sleighter both of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren; Steven and John Hatalla, and Andrea and Katie Takacs; a brother George Hatalla of Gates; a sister, Dorothy Bytnar of Masontown; several nieces and nephews. A brother Andy Hatalla is deceased.
