In memoriam of Rev. George V. Jackovic, 5/3/1920 - 10/1/2015
The Rev. George V. Jackovic, 95, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 1, 2015, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.
He was born May 3, 1920, in Canonsburg, a son of George and Marie Jackovic. During his youth, Father Jackovic attended elementary school at Third Ward in Canonsburg and graduated from Canonsburg High School. On June 16, 1946, in Saint Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, he was ordained by Bishop Hugh C. Boyle as a Roman Catholic priest. Father Jackovic was incardinated into the Diocese of Pittsburgh June 16, 1946. He was assigned as parochial vicar at Saint Joachim Parish in Pittsburgh from 1946 to 1951, at Saint Mark Parish in McKees Rocks from 1951 to 1953, at Sacred Heart Mission Parish in Nemacolin, Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Carmichaels and Saint Mary Mission Parish in Nemacolin from 1953 to 1958 and at Immaculate Conception Parish in Pittsburgh from 1958 to 1966. He then served as Pastor of Holy Family Parish in Creighton from 1966 to 1994.
Father Jackovic was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3291, Canonsburg, and Bishop Boyle Assembly 922. He was also a member of Priest's Choir and chaplain of St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus Council 3291, Canonsburg, and Catholic Daughters of America. After a long and faithful career spanning nearly five decades, he retired from service February 7, 1994.
Surviving are a cousin, Dennis (Johanna) Trylko of McMurray, and other cousins. Father Jackovic was the last of his immediate family. Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Albert Jackovic.
Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, with Bishop David A. Zubik as celebrant. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the church, which will be attended by Knights of Columbus Council 3291 and Bishop Boyle Assembly 922. Arrangements are in the care of Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, Canonsburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, My Father's House, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg.
