In memoriam of WARD, BOOKER T., SR., September 1, 1922 - October 1, 2004

BOOKER T. WARD, SR., a civil engineeer, age 82, died October 1, 2004 at his home in Woodbridge, VA of a heart attack.

He attended Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, PA and graduated with a B.S. degree in Education with a major in Education-Psychology. He also attended Yale University and Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. His education continued after the military and he attended Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, studying Industrial Engineering. At Loyola College in Baltimore, MD he studied special courses in tax accounting. He also attended American University taking specialty courses at the university.

His work career as a civil engineer expanded for 35 years and during that time several engineering firms employed him. His employment with RMK-BRJ, an engineering firm, took him to Saigon, Vietnam for four years where he supervised and coordinated the engineering activities for Maine/Civil construction. He served in the United States Air Force for three years as a sergeant during World War II and received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in 1946.

He was a member of St. Matthews Cathedral and served as a lector and a member of the Parish Council at St. Matthew's Cathedral.

One of his special achievements was becoming and Investment Advisor working for several brokerage firms as a Commodities broker.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria D. Ward of Woodbridge, VA; three brothers, Andrew Ward of Glenorlen, MD, Israel Ward of Nemacolin, PA, Franklin Ward of Plant City, FL; one sister, Willianne Lewis of Houston, TX; two sons, Frederick Ward of Waldorf, MD, Booker T. Ward , Jr. of Nemacolin, PA; two daughters, Janice Ward of West Springfield, MA, Zandra R. Rucker of Laurel, MD; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at MOUNTCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 13318 Occoquan Rd., Woodbridge, VA 22191.
