Leroy F. Rich
Raised in Carmichaels
Leroy F. "Red" Rich, 58, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Carmichaels, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in Veterans Administration Hospital, Houston.
He was born July 16, 1944, in Waynesburg, a son of Ruth Rich Sanner of Carmichaels and the late Silvie Leroy Rich.
Mr. Rich attended Carmichaels Area High School, where he was a football player.
During the Vietnam era, he served in the U.S. Army HHC 1st Battalion, 504th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division in the Dominican Republic.
After his military service, Mr. Rich learned tool grinding in Carmichaels with J&M Cutting and Grinding. In 1977, he moved to Houston, where he owned and operated Lee's Tool Grinding, until his recent illness.
He was a former member of First Baptist Church of Carmichaels and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Rich; a stepson, Carl Gorney of Houston; four stepdaughters, Clare Stockman, Lori Schwab, Shelly Prather and Jody Barnfield, all of Houston; several stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Leila G. Hennessey of Carmichaels and Audrey A. DeSimone of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a stepbrother, Jack Sanner of Pottstown; a stepsister, Linda Stickle of Uniontown; and several nieces and nephews.
His stepfather, Jesse J. Sanner, is deceased.
