Helen Kormanik, 87, of Dublin, Ohio, formerly of Nemacolin, Pa., died Monday, July 19, 2004, following a lengthy illness.

She was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Oliver, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kormanik; four brothers, Andrew, Frank and two that died in infancy; and her parents, Andrew and Catherine Yanechko Orlosky.

She was a graduate of Carmichaels High School and of St. Francis School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1939.

Helen was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Her unit was the 51st Station Hospital, II Armored Division, 3rd Army. She was the nurse for Buckeye Coal Company, of Nemacolin, Pa., from 1945 to 1955, the Director of Nursing for The Curry Home in Waynesburg, Pa., from 1961 to 1974, then worked for Western State School & Hospital as a nursing supervisor until 1984.

She was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church, Nemacolin, Pa., where she was a member of the Rosary Society and a member of the Catholic Daughters of Greene County.

Surviving are two sons, Daniel A. Kormanik of Newtown, Conn., and John D. Kormanik of Dublin, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Mary F. Ringer of Dublin, Ohio (formerly of Nemacolin, Pa.,) Mrs. Louise Simkovic of Carmichaels, Pa., and Mrs. Marguerite Urbany of Washington, Pa.; one brother, Edward Orlosky of Cleveland, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Friends will be received in the PAUL M. LESAKO FUNERAL HOME INC, 204 Dowlin Ave., Carmichaels, Pa., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, where a prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Hugh Church in Carmichaels at 10:15 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. John Bauer as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Crucible, Pa. A Parish Wake Service will be held on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
