Charles LAPCHINSKY ( -1938)

Injured last Thursday when struck by a machine in the Nemacolin mine of the Buckeye Coal company, Charles Lapchinsky, aged 33 years, six months and 13 days, succumbed Saturday night, September 17, 1938, in the Uniontown hospital to a broken back and fractured right leg.

Lapchinsky, a well-known member of the United Mine Workers and of the Citizen’s Club of Nemacolin, made a valiant battle for his life despite the grave injuries. He was caught by a cutting machine in the mine.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Anna Lapchinsky; three children, Betty, Richard and Marlene, at home; his mother, Mrs. Mary Lapchinsky, of Morgantown street, Uniontown, and the following brothers and sisters: John, of Oliver 1; Michael, Nemacolin; Mrs. Hattie Kudiba, Allison; Mrs. Nellie Bazonis, Uniontown, and Mrs. Catherine Nebraska, Uniontown.

Brief funeral rites will be held at 9 o’clock Tuesday morning at the home in House 219 at Nemacolin, followed by requiem high mass in the Nemacolin R.C. church, with Rev. Fr. Paul Buza, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s cemetery, at Hopwood, under the direction of George Yoney, of Masontown.
